Medical geography of Moldavia: historical contribution.

The role of Hungarian surgeons and physicians in the medical care of Moldavia was discussed in its historical development. Two medico-geographical works about Moldavia in the first half of the 19th century were discussed: Andreas Wolff and the Moldavian Constantin Vernav wrote the related books.

[Ultrasonic determination of subcutaneous adipose tissue and body fat].

We measured with the ultrasonic reflexion method the breadth of the subcutaneous adipose tissue at the following anatomical sites: subscapulare, triceps and on the lateral margin of the m. pectoralis on the chest. The percentual body fat can be calculated from the formula: % body fat = 22 - log / 2 - sum of the breadths on the three sites / -20.5 If we measure also the breadth on the abdominal point the % body fat is 22 - log / 1.5 - sum on the four sites / -20.5. The so calculated numerical results are with the skinfold measurements in best correlation.

[Epidemiology of chronic non-specific lung diseases (CNSLD) in industrial workers in Hungary (author's transl)].

The frequency and severity of CNSLD was studied in workers of an Hungarian firm (Ganz-Mavag) by means of questionnaire. Symptoms of CNSLD can be found more frequently in workers with air pollution than in those without. The symptoms of CNSLD show an age-dependence with regard to frequency and grade of severity, the single symptoms of CNSLD not occurring simultaneously and changing in their proportional frequency.
