[Report of pheochromocytoma in childhood (author's transl)].

This paper reports the results and specific variations in diagnostic and therapy of pheochromocytoma in childhood. Two patients aged 10 and 12 years are described. Previous reports about 155 cases are summarized in respect to localization and frequency of occurrence. In our experience the catheterization of the vena cava is a small-risk method to localize the tumor and to obtain informations about the amount and type of cathecholamines. The value and limits of the diagnostic procedure - until now seldom used in children - are mainly discussed. The improvement of symptoms and the marked circulatory changes by the treatment with the alpha-adrenergic blocking agent Dibencyline are described. The histological differentiation between benign and malign growth proves to be uncertain.

[Treatment of bradycardia with an atropine ester].

In view of the unsatisfying drug treatment of bradycardias in most cases, clinical studies with new compounds seem to be urgent. A report is given on experiences with a derivative of atropine (gen. Ipratropiumpromid) in 34 cases suffering from various types of bradycardias. Comparing heart rate following intravenous injections of 0.5 to 1.0 mg, the new drug proved to be definitely more effective than atropine sulfate. Side effects were limited to diminution of salivary glands function.

[Experimental findings on tyramine-dependent release of noradrenaline in various parts of the heart under the influence of practolol].

Determinations of Noradrenaline-concentrations (NA) in the myocardium of the atria and ventricles of rats were performed and the influences of Practolol and Tyramine were controlled. Following Tyramine, NA was decreased significantly in all specimens. After preinjection of Practolol, NA depletion was considerably less in the right and left atria compared to control values. By these results, the clinical observation of a preferential antiarrhythmic action of Practolol on atrial extrasystoles and tachycardias may be supported.
