Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler produces a phytotoxic substance tentoxin. The influence of inorganic phosphate on the formation of this secondary metabolite was analyzed. Distinct phases of growth and metabolite formation can be defined. The first phase shows exponential growth, high QO2, protein and nucleic acid values and a rapid uptake of inorganic phosphate from the medium. The second phase shows linear growth and active tentoxin formation takes place. The highest yields of tentoxin are obtained, when inorganic phosphate in the medium was limited. The phosphate level also influences the ATP-pool of the mycelium. The role of ATP as an effector in phosphate mediated control of tentoxin synthesis was discussed.
With Candida spec. H during phosphate starvation the changes occurring in the macromolecular cell composition and growth parameters were studied. In the absence of exogenous phosphate, but in the presence of carbon source (n-alkanes or glucose) and nitrogen source, the cells exponentially grow some time, whereas cell composition undergoes several changes. Both the nucleic acid and protein levels of the yeasts decreased. At the same time lipids were accumulated, especially with n-alkanes as carbon source. The carbohydrate content increased only slight, although the carbon source was in excess. The results were discussed.
The ultrastructure of n-alkane-grown cells of Candida spec. H was investigated by thin sectioning and freeze-etching techniques. On the plasma membrane shallow depressions could be observed. n-Alkane deposits were localized within the cell wall and at the plasma membrane. Peri-plasmic multilamellar structure appear in connection with n-alkane accumulation. Their participation in hydrocarbon assimilation and the nature of the lamellar structures are discussed.
With Candida spec. H and the mutant H13 during nitrogen starvation we studied the changes occurring in the macromolecular cell composition. In the absence of nitrogen, but in the presence of n-alkanes as carbon source, both the nucleic acid and protein levels of the dried yeasts rapidly decreased. At the same time carbohydrates and lipids were accumulated. Candida spec. H predominantly increased carbohydrate content, whereas the mutant accumulated significantly higher amounts of lipids. The main components of the cellular carbohydrates and the fatty acid content were analyzed, and the results were discussed.
Various aspects of the carbon energy metabolism of Candida spec. H on glucose in comparison to its metabolism on hydrocarbons were studied in this article. In the absence of nitrogen for growth cells undergo several changes in their chemical composition. The content of protein and nuclei acids decreases rapidly. At the same time on the glucose medium glycogen and trehalose were markedly accumulated, whereas lipid accumulation was only slight. On the hydrocarbon substrate both carbohydrates and lipid were increased. Also the difference between the fatty acid composition of Candida spec. H when grown on glucose and on n-alkanes was studied. The results were discussed.

At 102 skulls from adults and 67 skulls from children we have investigated 1) The postnatal changes of the thickness from basal parts of the Fossae craniales ant., med. et post. 2) The postnatal thickening and lateral shifting of the Processus clinoideus anterior. 3) The postnatal development at the superior side of the Canalis opticus. 4) Between the Os sphenoidale Clivus angle from newborn age to 17 years of life at 67 skulls. 5) The postnatal changes of the lateral angle at the Pars petrosa and its right-left-differences. 6) The postnatal thickening of the Calvaria (Squama frontalis - Tuber frontale, Os parietale - Tuber parietale). 7) The development, size and position of the Foramina parietalia. 8) The postnatal development of the Protuberantiae gyrorum and Sulci meningei.
Bile acids and their metabolism play an important role in the pathogenesis of many gastro-intestinal diseases such as gallstone formation, biliary fistula, intestinal congestive symptoms, defective function of the terminal ileum, ulcer pathogenesis. The diagnostics has been improved by enzymatic estimation methods of the bile acids in the serum, functional tests and radioactive marking of the bile acids. Principles of causal surgical therapy as well as internal treatment can be derived from this new pathophysiological knowledge.
