[Activation of cellular immunity in mice under normal conditions and in tumor growth during treatment with glucosaminyl muramyl dipeptide].

In vitro stimulation of mice spleen cells by means of glucosaminyl muramyl dipeptide (GMDP) was accompanied by development of tumor necrosis factor and of interleukin-I. The factor was detected in blood serum only after administration of GMDP simultaneously with lipopolysaccharide. GMDP activated peritoneal macrophages; the phenomenon was evaluated by means of the macrophages ability to kill tumoral cells P815 as well as by interleukin-I production after additional stimulation with lipopolysaccharide. At the same time, an increase in proliferating activity of spleen and bone marrow cells was observed. An increase of middle lifetime and recovery of 24% mice of C57BL/6 strain with leukosis EL-4 were observed after complex treatment of the animals with GMDP, lipopolysaccharide, cyclophosphane and indomethacin.

[Interferon production and natural killer activity induced by staphylococcal enterotoxin in mouse spleen cells].

After a single intraperitoneal inoculation of C57BL/6 mice with enterotoxin A of Staphylococcus aureus (SEA) the activity of natural killers (NK) increases and phase change of interferon production by spleen cells upon reinduction in vitro occurs. Multiple daily inoculations of mice with SEA maintain the activity of splenic NK at a similar high level. With an adequate control (multiple administration of the medium) NK activity was maintained at the same high level. Interferon production by spleen cells of mice which were multiply inoculated with the medium upon reinduction in vitro was the same as in the control animals, whereas after multiple inoculations of mice with SEA, spleen cells in vitro produced lower amounts of interferon.

[Maintenance of 2S retinol receptor in the retina of rats in injuries induced by visible light].

Male Wistar rats (140-150 g) were subjected to constant fluorescent light exposure (400 ft-cd) of 24 hrs-21 day; contents of rhodopsin, total soluble proteins, 2 S cytosolic receptor as well as the morphological (light microscopy) characteristics were studied in retina. After 24 hrs exposure content of rhodopsin was decreased by 82%, after 48 hrs--by 37% as compared with control level, and decreased down to zero value within the 20 day. The content of total cytosol proteins decreased more slowly and within 3 weeks constituted 68-72% as compared with the control level. There were progressive dystrophic changes of rods and cones within the third day, culminating in their destruction. 2 S receptor was determined by incubation of the cytosol with 2.0-6.0. 10(-8) M of 3H-retinol followed by sucrose gradient fractionation. During all the periods studied the 2 S receptor peak was observed. The data obtained suggest the maintenance of molecular mechanisms of vitamin A functioning in damaged retina.

[Viral hepatitis and normal killers].

The results of the study of functional activity of normal killers in different liver diseases: acute virus hepatitis A (26 patients), acute virus hepatitis B (24 patients including 3 with hepatic coma), and 12 patients with chronic liver diseases including 8 with chronic persisting hepatitis and 4 with chronic active hepatitis are presented. A control group included 17 apparently normal subjects. The most marked decrease of the level of activity of normal killers was found in hepatic coma and in chronic active hepatitis. The expedience of determinations of the activity level of normal killers for prognosis of immediate and remote outcomes of viral hepatitides as well as for the development of new methods of immunocorrecting therapy is discussed.
