Induced P-wave superfluidity in asymmetric fermi gases.

We show that two new intraspecies P-wave superfluid phases appear in two-component asymmetric Fermi systems with short-range S-wave interactions. In the BEC limit, phonons of the molecular BEC induce P-wave superfluidity in the excess fermions. In the BCS limit, density fluctuations induce P-wave superfluidity in both the majority and the minority species. These phases may be realized in experiments with spin-polarized Fermi gases.

Spin 1/2 fermions in the unitary regime: a superfluid of a new type.

We study, in a fully nonperturbative calculation, a dilute system of spin 1/2 interacting fermions, characterized by an infinite scattering length at finite temperatures. Various thermodynamic properties and the condensate fraction are calculated and we also determine the critical temperature for the superfluid-normal phase transition in this regime. The thermodynamic behavior appears as a rather surprising and unexpected mélange of fermionic and bosonic features. The thermal response of a spin 1/2 fermion at the BCS-BEC crossover should be classified as that of a new type of superfluid.

Specific heat of a fermionic atomic cloud in the unitary regime.

In the unitary regime, when the scattering amplitude greatly exceeds in magnitude the average interparticle separation, and below the critical temperature thermal properties of an atomic fermionic cloud are governed by the collective modes, specifically the Bogoliubov-Anderson sound modes. The specific heat of an atomic cloud in an elongated trap, in particular, has a rather complex temperature dependence, which changes from an exponential behavior at very low temperatures (T << h omega(parallel)), to proportional T for h omega(parallel) << T << h omega(perpendicular) and then continuously to proportional T4 at temperatures just below the critical temperature, when the surface modes play a dominant role. Only the low (h omega(parallel) << T << h omega(perpendicular)) and high (h omega(perpendicular) << T << T(c)) temperature power laws are well defined. For the intermediate temperatures one can introduce at most a gradually increasing with temperature exponent.

Collective oscillations of a trapped fermi gas near the unitary limit.

We calculate the oscillation frequencies of trapped Fermi condensate with particular emphasis on the equation of state of the interacting Fermi system. We confirm Stringari's finding that the frequencies are independent of the interaction in the unitary limit, and we extend the theory away from that limit, where the interaction does affect the frequencies of the compressional modes only.

Vortex state in a strongly coupled dilute atomic fermionic superfluid.

We show that in a dilute fermionic superfluid, when the fermions interact with an infinite scattering length, a vortex state is characterized by a strong density depletion along the vortex core. This feature can make a direct visualization of vortices in fermionic superfluids possible.

Energy density functional approach to superfluid nuclei.

We show that, within the framework of a simple local nuclear energy density functional (EDF), one can describe accurately the one- and two-nucleon separation energies of semimagic nuclei. While for the normal part of the EDF we use previously suggested parametrizations, for the superfluid part of the EDF we use the simplest possible local form compatible with known nuclear symmetries.

Spatial structure of a vortex in low density neutron matter.

We study in a fully self-consistent approach the structure of a vortex in low density superfluid neutron matter. We determine that the matter density profile of a vortex shows a significant depletion in the region of the core, a feature never reported for a vortex state in a Fermi superfluid.

Dilute quantum droplets.

In the limit when the two-body scattering length a is negative and much larger than the effective two-body interaction radius the contribution to the ground state energy due to the three-body correlations is given by the Efimov effect. For particular values of the diluteness parameter rho/a/(3) the three-body contribution can become the dominant term of the energy density functional. Under these conditions both Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac systems could become self-bound and either boson droplets or fermion "designer nuclei" of various sizes and densities could be manufactured.
