Libraries are the topic (and occasional font) or numerous myths and legends. Solos find themselves confronting any number of beliefs firmly held by their constituents as gospel-trye, in spite of evidence to the contrary. Librarians themselves are not immune to this condition. Herewith are some of my favorites, in no particular order.
Case study. The CEO of a mid-size community hospital requested a literature search on the standards, costs and regional competition for a pain management center. Results submitted were deemed less than satisfactory. A review of the case suggests numerous elements, listed below, which need to be addressed and revised in order to improve outcome in future interactions.
