Electron impact induced fragmentation of ( p-substituted phenyl)-(4'-methylphenacyl) sulfones: contribution of sulfinate ester rearrangements

The molecular ions of the title compounds are usually very unstable. The main fragmentation corresponds to the formation of p-MeC(6)H(4)CO(+) as would be expected. Another abundant fragment ion was [M - SO(2)](+) which is formed both from the original sulfone and from the rearranged sulfinate esters. There are, however, three primary ions which can be traced back to each isomeric molecular ion: p-RC(6)H(4)SO(2)(+) to the original sulfone, p-RC(6)H(4)SO(+) to the.CH(2)S(=O)O-. type sulfinate ester and p-RC(6)H(4)OH(+.) to the.CH(2)OS(=O). type sulfinate ester of which the latter seems by far to dominate. [Subcutaneous immunoglobulin infusion in antibody deficiency substitution of a patient sensitized to intravenous immunoglobulins. Case report].

Patients with severe form of common variable immunodeficiency require chronic immunoglobulin substitution. However, intravenous Ig administration may not be possible in some of them because of serious anaphylactoid reactions. It has been suggested that such patients may tolerate well Ig administration by subcutaneous infusion. A case is described (originally with IgG level of 53 mg/dl) who reacted with anaphylactic shock to intravenous immunoglobulin and now for more than 7 months at 1-2 week intervals receives immunoglobulin by subcutaneous infusion without any adverse reactions and maintaining IgG level above 400 mg/dl. In contrast to the period proceeding immunoglobulin substitution, the patient remains free of bacterial infection during last 7 months.

Ultrastructural cytochemistry of intranuclear dense granules in nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

Electron-dense round granules (ING) were found in the nuclei of fibroblastic cells of all the tumors examined by us (6 cases) and diagnosed clinically and histologically as nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (NPAF). The ING were consistently associated with this tumor and can be regarded as pathognomonic of NPAF. We studied at the ultrastructural level the composition of these particles using various cytochemical techniques. Enzymatic digestions carried out on thin sections as well as staining methods preferential or specific for nucleoproteins have revealed that ING represent tightly bound RNA-protein complexes and do not contain DNA. There are no data available that the ING takes part in the metabolism of NPAF fibroblastic cells.
