[Controlled heparinization during hemosorption].

The authors used a method of graded heparinization with special reference to the individual reaction of the patients to heparin. The initial (starting) dose of heparin was injected intravenously, the sustaining dose of heparin was infused through the tube for blood taking. The method described prevented thrombosis of the HMS apparatus and considerably reduced the quantity of heparin used. No complications of hemosorption resulting from heparinization were noted.

[Electrometric control of the position of a venous catheter in children].

The position of the venous end of the subclavian catheter was determined in 100 children by recording the intracavitary potentials. The measuring of the intracavitary wave P was used as a diagnostic criterion. In 30 cases these findings were supported by a radiopaque study, in 12 cases by a postmortem examination. The results of the observations are shown in the scheme. A conclusion is made concerning the possible use of the electrometric method of control of the catheter position in the department of intensive therapy for children.

[Complications in ultraviolet irradiation of the blood].

2380 sessions of ultraviolet blood irradiation have been analysed. A DRB-8 lamp was used as a source of irradiation. The complications observed were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 comprised complications associated with the technical performance of the manipulation, their rate being 1.3%. Group II comprised complications developed in ultraviolet blood irradiation. The complications observed in group II were as follows: rigor in 4 cases, hypotension in 2 cases, nasal bleeding in 3 cases, hypoglycemia in 1 patient, bronchospasm in 1 patient and urticaria in 1 patient. To prevent the onset of complications medical care and the oral intake of carbohydrates are recommended for 1.5-2 h after the session. Intramuscular injections are to be avoided for 1.5 h for fear of the appearance of hematomas.

[Experience with the use of UV irradiation of autologous blood in oral surgery].

Autotransfusions of UV irradiated blood were used in the treatment of 20 patients with grave pyoinflammatory maxillofacial diseases. 54 sessions were carried out, that resulted in a manifest clinical effect. The results evidence that this method may be effectively used as the main treatment modality in the management of recurrent furunculosis of the face.
