[Cloning of the tag7 gene expressed in metastatic mouse tumors].

Gene expression was compared in a metastatic (VMR-Liv) neoplastic cell line and a related nonmetastatic (VMR-O) neoplastic cell line by means of the differential display method. A fragment of cDNA corresponding to the tag7 gene, differentially expressed in the metastatic cell line, was isolated. The full-length tag7 cDNA was cloned and its nucleotide sequence was determined. No homology between the tag7 gene and known sequences was revealed. tag7 gene transcription was studied in some tumors, cell lines, and normal mouse organs.

[Thermostable placental-type alkaline phosphatase in the malignantly degenerated endometrium].

A comparative immunochemical study established that heat-stable placental alkaline phosphatase (HPAP) is contained only in malignant epithelium and is not present in the tissues of fetal and definitive uterus. The heterogeneity of HPAP was shown by means of electrophoresis. There is a direct correlation between HPAP level and the degree of tumor differentiation. Immunohistochemical and histochemical studies showed that HPAP occurs in areas of tumor where glandular structure is most pronounced. HPAP secretion in endometrial mucus was observed. An immunochemical test for HPAP is suggested which may be used in evaluating the degree of tumor differentiation and selecting a suitable scheme of treatment. Immunochemical assay of endometrial mucus for HPAP may offer good advantage in mass screenings of females at risk.

[Organ-specific human prostate beta-globulin during tumor growth].

An organ specific protein antigen having an electrophoretic mobility of beta-globulin was demonstrated in human prostate. Its physicochemical properties (relative electrophoretic mobility, diffusion coefficient, molecular weight and relation to different precipitating agents) were determined. The indirect immunofluorescence technique revealed that this antigen is synthesized by the glandular epithelium of the main glands. A statistically significant decrease was found in the concentration of prostatic beta-globulin in tumors of the prostate. The synthesis of this protein was shown to start only in the period of puberty.

[Effect of alpha fetoprotein on the processes of reparative regeneration of the skin and tubular bones].

The influence of alpha-fetoprotein of man, dog and cat on the processes of reparative regeneration of the skin and long tubular bones was studied. alpha-fetoprotein was shown to stimulate regenerative processes by forming young connective tissue, but had no strong species specificity. Commercial preparation of human alpha-fetoprotein proved to possess maximum physiological activity in comparison with other alpha-fetoproteins under study.
