[Functional results of transsphenoidal selective adenomectomy in acromegaly (40 cases)].
Forty acromegalic patients were investigated before, during and after transsphenoidal selective adenomectomy. Pre- and post-operative studies were based on HGH basal levels, OGTT, TRH and LRH stimulation tests, while HGH plasma variations were measured during operation. Selective adenomectomy normalized HGH levels in 70% of all cases (89.5% in grades I-II and 52.4% in grades III-IV); moreover in these cases, OGTT documented normal control of GH secretion. Per-operative GH levels evolution proved to be of pronostic value. Stimulation tests demonstrated normal regulation of other pituitary functions.

Focal brain invasion as the first manifestation of Langerhans cell histiocytosis in an adult. Case report.
A 31-year-old overweight man, suffering from high-blood pressure, was hospitalized for transient fits and hemiparesis. MRI disclosed a large irregular mass affecting the vault, meninges and invading the parietal lobe. At neurosurgery, the lesion was necrotic, hemorrhagic and poorly demarcated from the surrounding brain. Histopathology revealed a benign Langerhans cell histiocytosis. No other systemic nor organic lesions could be discovered. After additional local radiotherapy, the patient recovered completely and regained normal activities 6 months later.
