Primary osteosarcoma of the kidney.

Osteosarcoma arising in the kidney is a bona fide entity. A case is reported and described in clinical and pathological detail. Characteristic changes include a palpable stony hard renal mass associated with radiographic demonstration of sunburst calcification in the kidney. The case presented is unique in that virtually the entire specimen was composed of bone.

Reactivity of lupus erythematosus antibodies with leukemic helper T cells.

Immunoabsorbent columns, containing membrane fragments of either leukemic "helper" T cells or B cell lymphoblasts, were used to isolate and study antilymphocyte antibodies from plasmas of 2 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Both plasmas contained IgG which bound to and could be eluted from the "helper" T cell column. These antibodies significantly inhibited normal lymphocyte proliferative responses to microbial and histocompatibility antigens. The findings indicate that these SLE plasmas contain immunoglobulins of the IgG class which react with leukemic "helper" T cells and inhibit normal effector T cell function.

The migrating mycetoma.

A case of mycetoma is presented in which the fungus ball migrated from the apex to the base of the lung as a result of progressive parencyhmal destruction by tuberculosis. Histological and serological data suggested Aspergillus fumigatus as the cause of the mycetoma. Aspergillomas rarely coexist in cavities with active tuberculosis.

[Tonsillectomy and leukemia in adults (author's transl)].

Among 752 leukemic adult patients 99 were tonsillectomized and among 752 strictly selected healthy persons ("individual matched pairs") 182. This difference is significant and shows the same results as earlier examinations in leukemic children by Matzker and Klasen. Authors suggest further controls of these impressioning statisticts. New aspects of tonsillar pathophysiology and also indication for adenotonsillectomy are induced.
