[Validity of "Gravistat" device for the improvement of statics and locomotion: interrelation with neuro-auto-immune reactions].

The purpose was to study the interrelation between effectiveness of the dynamic proprioceptive correction (DPC) of static and locomotor disorders at the late residual phase of children's cerebral paralysis (CCP) with the help of "Gravistat" and the auto-immune reactions (AIR) to neurospecific proteins (NSP). Data of an original method of AIR evaluation by the ratio of IgC to proteins S-100 and alpha-2-glycoprotein in blood serum make it evident that the method can pinpoint events in the perinatal period (3.5-18 yrs.) both in healthy individuals and patients with residual CCP. In addition, the method can predict efficiency of the DPC therapy of CCP and, probably, cerebral circulation disturbances, craniocerebral injury, and other conditions with a neuro-autoimmune component.

[Salvage thermochemotherapy in advanced refractory malignant tumors in children].

The data are presented on polychemotherapy given to 17 children with advanced refractory malignant tumors using whole body hyperthermia and hyperglycemia. All patients suffered tumor progression throughout treatment and afterwards. Adjuvant Roncoleukin (interleukin-2) was administered in 5. Such salvage therapy was followed by overall tumor regression in 29.3%. Overall 4-year survival in such cases was 19%. Immunological monitoring of adjuvant whole body hyperthermia and interleukin-2 was carried out.

Ischaemic heart disease in men of productive age: comparison of epidemiological and morphological data.

Data obtained from a cross-sectional population study of men aged 20-54 years and results of a morphological epidemiological examination of the aorta and coronary arteries of 507 men aged 20-59 years, deceased from various causes in the city of Tallinn, were analysed to find whether there is a relationship between the prevalence of ischaemic heart disease (IHD), its risk factors and morphological features of atherosclerosis. An association has been found between the development of clinical IHD manifestations with age, extent of morphological signs of atherosclerosis in the abdominal aorta and coronary arteries, and occurrence of hypercholesterolaemia. Estonian men showed more marked changes in lipid indicators and greater extent of morphological signs of atherosclerosis than men of other nationalities; this corresponds to the more atherogenic character of the former's diet. However, Estonian men did not differ from other nationalities in the occurrence of IHD and expected death risk--a finding the authors explain by the lower percentage of smokers among Estonians.

[Serum antibodies to brain protein antigens in cerebral palsy in children].

Using special brain antigen test-system ELITEST-24, ELISA assays of the serum of children with cerebral palsy were conducted. The data obtained were compared to relevant characteristics of the sera from neurologically and somatically healthy persons and patients with diagnoses of multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, epilepsy and hepato-cerebral dystrophy according to special PC program VIZUAL and DIAGNOST. High specificity of the cerebral palsy anti-brain antigens reactivity was revealed by ELITEST technique. Moreover, the comparison of the mother-child pair immunoreactivity has been conducted. Evidence for hypothesis of epigenetically performing of children antibodies repertoires by mother-during-pregnancy immune status were obtained. Possible immunopathologic mechanisms of the disease are discussed.

[Mineral metabolism and tissue-specific cytotoxic activity of the blood serum in the progeny in chronic alcoholic intoxication of the progenitors].

Late sequelae of chronic alcoholic intoxication were studied in the 3rd generation of animals. The peculiarities of trace element and macronutrient balance and the offspring blood serum tissue-specific cytotoxic activity against brain, testes, thymus, are discussed in their relation to the nature of chronic alcoholic intoxication of the 1st generation on paternal, maternal and both sides. Characteristic features are shown for the indices under study in the offspring, including the chronic alcoholic intoxication in males of the 1st generation. These peculiarities suggest the possibility of a differentiated therapeutical approach to correction of alcoholic embryo-/fetopathy.
