Odontogenic myxoma. A clinical and ultrastructural study.

The odontogenic myxoma is an uncommon neoplasm of the jaws that is believed to arise from the primitive, mesenchymal portion of the tooth germ. This study surveys nine cases of odontogenic myxoma of the jaws. Analysis of the clinical material revealed that the myxoma occurred most frequently in the posterior regions of the mandible and will recur if initial therapy is too conservative. The average age of the patients in this series was 26.5 years. Five cases involved females and four involved males. Electron microscope findings revealed that the tumor cells are probably responsible for the secretion of the myxomatous intercellular material of the neoplasm.

Aneurysmal bone cyst secondary to other osseous lesions. Report of 57 cases.

Fifty-seven aneurysmal bone cysts which were associated with or secondary to other lesions of bone are reported. The most common associations were with solitary or unicameral bone cyst, and with osteoclastoma. Other associated lesions included osteosarcoma, nonosteogenic fibroma, osteoblastoma, hemangioendothelioma, and hemangioma of bone. Five aneurysmal bone cysts were secondary to fracture or other bone trauma.

The application of a frequency oscillation method for tooth extraction in dogs.

A tooth-grasping forceps with a gas-driven oscillating headpiece was designed for dental extractions in the dog, Compared with the conventional method, the extraction time was shortened considerably, and preliminary results indicate it may cause less trauma to alveolar bone and periodontal ligament.

Salmonellosis in Botswana. I. Incidence in cattle.

Clinical salmonellosis in cattle is infrequently recorded in Botswana, the majority of salmonella isolations being made from apparently healthy animals. A salmonella carrier rate of 6.7% was found in testing faeces samples from 89 apparently healthy cattle. A total of 35 salmonella serotypes were isolated from specimens of bovine origin. Salmonella dublin was isolated infrequently, possibly in part because of prophylactic vaccination.
