Assessment of the age of atherosclerosis risk in population studies using a two factorial mathematical model.
The risk of atherosclerosis was assessed using a mathematical model of competition between LDL and HDL on 365 randomly selected persons. The results speak for the fact that the risk falls between the ages of 30 and 40 years for males, and 40 and 50 years for females. We are of the opinion that our procedure may be valid for sex comparison studies attempting to objectify the prevalence of atherosclerosis in population studies.
[The problem of evaluating so-called aging parameters exemplified by insulin secretion].
The mean aspects of insulin secretion were studied in healthy humans of 27-59 years of age by means of glucagon application and determination of C-peptide blood concentration. The results lead to the assumption that the basic insulin secretion correlates proportionally to body weight or body mass index (BMI) at the expense of the pancreas resources of this hormone. Further, aging seems to decrease the sensitivity of the beta cells' reaction to stimuli. Finally, the fact that excess weight and/or the preponderance of fat mass are usually age-dependent manifestations, may lead to the conclusion that the rise of the basic insulin secretion with decrease of the pancreas resource and a progressive loss of reaction capacity of beta cells are physiological consequences of aging.
[Objective assessment of biological aging in the human: results].
From a population sample of 139 healthy persons, six specially selected aging parameters were tested for their significance to vitality, by means of four mathematical models referring to the concept of vitality. As reference values, tm, is the age expressed in years when maximal vitality occurs, and the aging constant is beta, also known as an aging factor. Our results for tm extended from 16.6 to 39.6 years, depending on the respective mathematical model applied. We find a similar characteristic for the beta-values. A comparison with results in other publications on the subject, obtained by processing a considerably larger number of variables than we did, underlined the utility of our parameters. This is also shown by the quality of results we obtained by regression analysis, by the adjustment to the functions of the vitality concept and by the simplicity of the required laboratory methods of analysis.

[Atherosclerosis as a physiological manifestation of aging for measuring the rate of aging].
This work studies the follow-up of vitality using parameters related to the arterial wall. This study is based on the application of several mathematical models and different calculation procedures. Humoral parameters together with measurements of the daily insulin secretion (own methodology based on the C-peptide elimination) were applied for the calculations using the exclusively healthy population. In the case of the non-selected population the percentage of disease prevalences due to vascular affections were applied for calculations.
[The dynamics of aging of an unselected population of limited representation].
Aging rates of a sample which should represent the total population living in a district of Madrid were studied using the vectorial calculation as a mathematical model. The number of individuals who finally participated was 867, homogeneously distributed by sex and age decades in the age range of 20-100 years. A total of 15 variables was applied, but they were deduced from health-related data obtained from a special elaborated questionnaire. The resulting aging factor--a dimension to evaluate the aging acceleration--agrees with the corresponding results of biological aging studies previously published. Moreover, we contend that the obtained information from the simply sent questionnaire is accurate and of biological value, and would enable studies on the aging rates of populations.
