Flow cytometric and molecular analysis of proliferative activity and DNA content in neuroblastoma: presence of stationary cells in S-phase.

Twenty-nine previously untreated neuroblastomas were analyzed for DNA content and percentage of cells in S-phase, both determined by flow cytometry, and N-myc oncogene copy number. Twelve of them were also tested for histone H3 transcript levels as a marker of actual proliferative activity. A significantly higher S-phase fraction was associated with advanced stages of disease, unfavorable (i.e., near-diploid and near-tetraploid) DNA content, and N-myc amplification. The occurrence of six tumors with a remarkable (greater than or equal to 10%) S-phase fraction but lacking histone H3 transcripts suggests the presence of stationary S-phase cells in neuroblastoma.

[Ergonomic improvements obtained by the realization of an automatic methane cylinder-storage system in a control station].

In a control station where liquid-methane cylinder for vehicle transport are inspected, the realization of an automatic cylinder-storage system not only managed to reduce space shortage inside the plant so avoiding possible accidents due to collisions between fork lift trucks and gathered cylinders or lorries, but also noticeably improved environment by reducing noise, total dust concentration and whole body vibration transmitted through the seats to lift truck operators.

[Spontaneous rupture of a pathological bladder: contribution of a case].

A case is presented of spontaneous rupture in a pathological bladder. The authors point out the importance of retrograde cystographies to reveal intraperitoneal ruptures in te bladder and to check for the existence of associated lesions. A review is made of the etiology, clinical picture and treatment of spontaneous, intraperitoneal rupture of the bladder.
