[Severe candidiasis in heroin addicts].

Seven cases of severe candida infection in heroin addicts are reported. The principal features of this condition which arose in 1980, apparently due to a particular quality of heroin, are described, Candida albicans was the only pathogenic agent isolated from mainly scalp nodular and pustular lesions. These cutaneous lesions were associated in half the cases with ocular lesions, which sometimes had a poor prognosis despite active therapy. Osteo-articular complications were less common. Ketoconazole therapy alone gave good results in this series. The precise reasons for this dissemination of Candida albicans and for these localisations are still not clearly understood.

[Establishment of a 2-stage prognostic classification of primary malignant melanoma derived from a multidimensional analysis and from an agreement study].

Slides of 198 patients with primary malignant melanoma have been reevaluated independently by three pathologists; considered parameters were histologic type, Clark's level and tumor thickness. The agreement between pathologists is excellent, especially for histologic type and thickness. The use of the Cox's regression model, dealing with disease free interval as response criterion, shows that the main prognostic factor is tumor thickness, whatever the pathologist. A prognostic staging is thus proposed, based only on the tumor thickness, less than 2 mm, greater than 2 mm. The prognostic value of this staging is confirmed on a new sample of 145 patients. This classification is used as decision tool in a new randomized clinical trial.

[Weber-Christian syndrome and chronic pancreatitis (author's transl)].

The authors describe a case of cytosteatonecrosis associated with chronic pancreatitis. Clinical, biological (amylasemia and amylasuria) and radiological (arteriography) signs of pancreatic disease are noticed as well as important radiological lesions of the limbs. The cutaneous lesions are hypodermic nodules located on the lower limbs with swelling of the right big toe and a cutaneous abrasion.
