[Potentiation insulin coma therapy by regional and lateral electric stimulation].

Clinicopsychopathological and clinicostatistical methods were employed to explore reverse dynamics of psychopathological symptomatology in the course of insulin coma therapy of 200 schizophrenic patients. 90 patients received insulin coma therapy in combination with zonal and lateral stimulations by means of subsensory pulse current at a frequency of 1 to 30 Hz. Right hemispheral exposure potentiated antipsychotic action of insulin comas. After left hemispheral exposure insulin comas provoked temporary exacerbation of symptomatology. The new modification was called lateral potentiated insulin coma therapy. The use of the therapy made it possible to attain a more rapid reverse development of psychotic symptomatology, to reduce the number of comas required per treatment course, to raise the quality and duration of the remissions attained.

[The use of lateral central electroanalgesia in patients with borderline mental disturbances].

Results are reported on the use of lateral central electroanalgesia (current frequency: 1500-2000 Hz) in 59 patients with borderline mental disorders characterized by frequent protracted attacks. It was found that maximum reduction of psychopathological symptoms was observed in patients with somatic and senestopathic hypochondriac subdepressions, hypoparanoid structures of hypervaluable level in the limits of small progredient schizophrenia and atypical cyclotomy.

[Lateral modulation of the hypoglycemic action of insulin].

The results of the experimental investigation on 15 rabbits are presented here. Hypoglycemic action of the standard exogenic insulin dose strengthened after performing transcerebral lateral electrostimulation on the right side with the weak current impulse.

[Modulation of the hypoglycemic effect of insulin during lateral transcerebral electrostimulation].

Experiments on rabbits have studied the effect of lateral transcerebral electrical modulations with weak impulse current on hypoglycemic insulin effect. Two series of experiments were performed on 15 intact animals each. Right-sided electrical stimulation in the first series of experiments produced a trend toward a decrease in fasting blood sugar concentration. In the second series of experiments there was hypoglycemic action of a standard exogenous insulin dose. Transcerebral left-sided electrical stimulation caused no such effects. It has been concluded that the modulation of hypoglycemic exogenous insulin effect was possible due to unilateral transcerebral right-sided electrical stimulation.

[Clinical features of neuroses in left-handed children].

A study covering 100 sinistral and 100 dextral neurotic children revealed a higher percentage of persons with manifestations of motor disinhibition, phobias and anxiety among sinistral children. It was also in this group that a considerable number of children presented at the beginning of schooling such phenomena as "mirror" writing and attempts of reading and counting from right to left. Elements of "mirror" thinking seemed to explain difficulties in learning writing and reading observed in such children. The authors discuss the questions of prophylactic measures in sinistral children with neuroses.

[Asymmetry of brain lesions and immunobiologic reactivity].

The authors compare some clinico-psychopathological traits in the development and frequency of detected antibrain antibodies and allergical states in epilepsy with a different lateralization in the hemispheres. In a sinistral localization of the lesion there is a significant increase of an unfavourable development of the disease and a more frequent detection of antibodies to the homologous brain. In a dextral localization there is a relatively favourable development of the basic disorder. The authors discuss the influence of the sex factor on the immunobiological indices and the lateralization of the hemisphere. A theory is suggested that the left and right hemispheres are involved in different ways in the different links of immunity, and their pathology may provoke different changes in the body reactivity.

[Use of deprim in the treatment of depression in an outpatient setting].

Results are submitted of a clinical trial of deprim of the Lek firm (Slovakia), a new drug preparation having an antidepressive effect. Enrolled in a comparative randomized investigation were 32 patients with mild to moderately severe depressive disorders. Throughout the study being conducted, the time-related course of clinical condition was assessed with the aid of the M. Hamilton scale assessment of degree of depression. The data secured suggest efficacy of employment of the drug deprim in an outpatient psychiatric and general somatic practice for treating neurotic depressions of mild to moderately severe degree.

[Lateral phototherapy in somatoform mental disorders].

Curability of somatomorphic disorders in isolated use of lateral phototherapy was studied. High clinical effectiveness of direct and inverse light-up regimens in the treatment of functional somatomorphic disorders was established, dependence of therapeutic prognosis on severity of the disorders was shown. According to the authors, typology of somatomorphic disorders may be disregarded when regimen of the treatment is being chosen but it should be taken into account in determination of minimal sufficient duration of therapy.
