Effects of alpha-fluoromethylhistidine on increase in histidine decarboxylase activity of maternal mouse kidney observed during late pregnancy and evidence for its non-mast cell origin by using estrogen and W/WV mice.

The increase of histidine decarboxylase (HDC) activity during late pregnancy in the whole bodies of fetal mice and the kidneys of their mothers were almost completely inhibited by i.p. administration of 25 mg/kg of alpha-fluoromethylhistidine (alpha-FMH), a suicide inhibitor of HDC, starting on day 13 of pregnancy. The increase of HDC in fetal mice was previously shown to be in mast cells [T. Watanabe et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 78, 4209-4212 (1981)]. The increase of HDC in maternal kidneys was examined by using estrogen and W/WV mice, which were devoid of mast cells and infertile. Treatment of castrated mice with 17-beta-estradiol increased the HDC activity of the kidney, and this increase was antagonized by concomitant treatment with clomiphene, an antiestrogen, confirming that the increase is mediated through an estrogen receptor. HDC activity in the kidney of W/WV mice was also increased by estradiol treatment, indicating that HDC activity was associated with non-mast cells.

[The comparative study of renogram both in case of dehydration and hydration (author's transl)].

In order to study the merit or demerit of the dehydration or hydration as the preparation of renographic examination, the following 25 cases--11 cases of uterine cancer, 2 cases of breast cancer, a case of esophageal cancer, pharyngeal cancer, maxillary cancer, salivary gland tumor, leiomyosarcoma of uterus and others are examined by renography using 131I-hippurate. Renogram is performed in case of patient's dehydration and followed in case of patient's hydration with 600 ml of water intake. Renographic findings such as Tmax, T1/2, HB/HA and step-like pattern are studied as a parameter. Following 600 ml water intake, Tmax is significantly shortened and the step-like pattern is disappeared. This study is strongly suggested that patient's hydration is significantly necessary in the performance of renogram as the preparatory procedure.

[Clinical evaluation of 67Ga-citrate scintigraphy with reference to tumor detectability (author's transl)].

The clinical usefulness of 67Ga-citrate whole body scanning is evaluated in 178 cases of the various diseases in a period of 1976-1978. The cases are 59 cases of thoracic lesions, 41 cases of head and neck lesions, 35 cases of abdominal, bone, and soft tissue lesions, and 43 cases of benign and malignant lymphoma. The clinical results and detectability of various known lesions are shown in tables 1, 2, 3 and 4. The detectability of unknown lesions of malignant lymphoma is shown in table 5. The study demonstrates the particular clinical values of 67Ga-citrate scan in detectability of unknown lesions to be in cases of malignant lymphoma.

Oral bony lesion in a patient with medical history of hyperparathyroidism.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is an uncommon disease in which the amount of parathyroid hormone circulating in the bloodstream is increased. Therefore, bony changes are often found in the prolonged or severe cases of hyperparathyroidism. This study describes and discusses the relationship between cystical radiolucent lesion in the left mandible of 29-year-old Japanese male and hyperparathyroidism which has the feature of bony changes.

[Clinical effects of NK 631, a new bleomycin derivative, in treatment of oral cancer (author's transl)].

We used only NK 631, a new bleomycin derivative, for 10 cases of primary oral cancer, and obtained following results. (1) Anti-cancer effects were immediate and as follow: remarkably good in 1 case, efficacious in 8 cases, and none in 1 case. (2) In clinical examination, peripheral blood, function of kidney, liver, etc. were normal. But attention must be payed to blood gas. (3) Loss of hair, stomatitis and exanthema were noticed as side effects more clearly than regular bleomycin, but no fever. As the result of the above, NK 631 is better than regular bleomycin in anti-cancer effect and activity, but more attention should be payed to the side effect.
