Seventy-seven patients with gastroduodenal ulcer were treated with two methyl-prostaglandin E2 analogues, m-PGE2, in a double-blind clinical trial. Each of three groups was given 15 S-15 methyl PGE2 methyl ester, 15 R-15 methyl PGE2 methyl ester, and placebo, respectively. Both forms of m-PGE2 analogues appeared to reduce gastric acid secretion, to shorten ulcer healing, and also to produce some side-effects, form 'S' being the more potent. Prompt healing of the ulcer with these agents did not prevent the recurrence of the disease. As the serum gastrin response to a meal after m-PGE2 administration was not reduced, this agent seems directly to affect oxynthic cells.
4 cases of false-negative and 2 of false-positive bladder rupture diagnosis are presented. Diagnostic difficulties are encountered when: (1) intestinal loops have got into the bladder stopping its hole; (2) the rupture dissects the bladder wall and not extravasation is visible on cystograms, and (3) there exists and additional urethral rupture.

The present study demonstrates that the fibrinolytic activity is significantly increased and the level of plasminogen antiactivator diminished in the blood of patients with advanced liver cirrhosis and chronic aggressive hepatitis as compared with the values for healthy subjects. Total fibrinogen concentration was similar in patients and controls. However, electrophoresis of plasma with the use of SDS-polyacrylamide gel (3.5%) showed considerable differences in the composition of fibrinogen fractions. Lower molecular weight (LMW and LMW1) clottable protein was significantly (p less than 0.01) increased in the patients. In two out of 22 patients the higher molecular weight (HMW) fraction was virtually absent. In vitro incubation (37 degrees C for 48 hr) of diluted (1:10) plasma from a patient resulted in extensive degradation of a low-solubility fibrinogen fraction (HMW) previously added to the sample. No degradation was observed in any undiluted plasma samples. It is concluded that the increased concentration of lower-molecular-weight forms of clottable protein in the blood of patients with liver disease is probably related to increased in vivo degradation rather than abnormal synthesis. An association rather than a direct correlation with fibrinolytic activity was found.

102 fattened pigs with known genetic origin were tested on a conveyor-belt 1--4 days before slaughtering. 64 animals run in the first passage in each case 154 m in a 4 minutes (0.64 m/s), compared to it the 38 animals of the second passage run in each case 770 m in 20 minutes. Measurements of heart frequency and breathing and body temperature were taken before and at intervals until 30 minutes after movement. After slaughtering the values of pH, colour and drip loss of the M. longissimus dorsi were measured. It turned out a difference in the meat quality with a high part of PSE-meat in the first passage (36%), caused by season. The criterion "recovery time of heart action after load" was able to value the stress susceptibility in dependence on meat quality p.m. Animals with a longer recovery time exhibited a lower pH45 value, a lighter colour and a higher drip loss of meat. But only after a certain stress intensity (2. passage) the assertion was given.
