[Effect of the new antidepressant cephedrine on compensatory hypertrophy of the ovaries and the inhibiting effect of estrogen].
It has been shown in experiments on female albino rats that cephedrine in doses of 20 and 50 mg/kg (per os) prevents the inhibitory action of diethylstilbestrol propionate on compensatory hypertrophy of the ovary. It has been demonstrated that on being given in a dose of 50 mg/kg the drug itself favours more pronounced compensatory hypertrophy of the ovary and exhibits activity in the area of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal centers that regulate gonadal function.
