[Cutaneous diphtheria].

Cutaneous diphtheria, frequently seen in tropical areas, is uncommon in developed countries. As seen in the recent epidemics in western countries, where it turned out to be an important factor of dissemination, there is a persisting risk of diphtheria. A perfect knowledge of the clinical manifestations and factors of risk and consequent vaccination is necessary to eradicate diphtheria.

Pneumococcal cellulitis in an HIV-infected adult.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is an uncommon cause of cellulitis. In almost all of the reported cases, the infection occurred in immunosuppressed patients, especially in those with connective tissue diseases. We report a case of cervical cellulitis associated with septicemia which occurred in an HIV-infected adult.

Legionella pneumophila pneumonia associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome successfully treated with imipenem.

Although utility of beta-lactams in the treatment of legionnaire's disease could not be demonstrated, clinical cures of human legionellosis with imipenem have been reported. We report the case of a 45-year-old man who presented clinical and radiological features of 'typical' bacterial pneumonia. He was successfully treated with imipenem. Serologic studies showed seroconversion for Legionella pneumophila.
