The authors report a case of a ruptured right subphrenic abscess causing a diffuse peritonitis complicating a chronic empyema. The authors recommend active treatment of purulent pleurisies, particularly when they are associated with a bronchopleural fistula.

The authors report a rare case of abscess developed in a solitary renal cyst and observed just after the resolution of a bronchopneumonia. The modern imaging techniques, sonography and computed tomography, permitted an exact diagnosis, and subsequent surgical treatment brought to a complete recovery.
The technique of deep-freezing in liquid nitrogen of stripped saphenous veins permitted their long-term preservation, and the subsequent creation of a "bank" of venous allografts, used for arteriovenous internal shunts for hemodialysis. Histological, histochemical and immunological tests, and first clinical results have been favorable.

A case of stromal melanosis of the prostate gland is reported. Ultrastructurally, dendritic processes and melanosomes, but no basal lamina were observed in melanin-containing cells. In similar cases, characterized by the diffuse distribution of stromal pigmented melanocytes, the term 'pigmented melanocytosis' rather than 'blue nevus' appears more appropriate.
On the basis of a clinical case the authors report the technique of laparotomic transvesical incision for cesarean section, which, nevertheless, has limited and special indications.

A condition of acute pulmonary edema was obtained experimentally in the dog, perfusing the lower lobe of the left lung by a roller pump with compatible canine plasma. The edema develops contemporarily to the increase of pressure in the pulmonary artery and the interstitial tissue: it diffuses principally in the interstitial tissue, while after clamping the pulmonary veins it is observed also inside the alveoli.
An ascite complicated an acute ileal obstruction in the immediate post-partum period. The basal hormonal condition and a pharmacological treatment with synthetic oxytocin have to be considered as important etiological factors.
Dissection of the inferior mediastinum and of the lower esophagus can be performed through an abdominal transdiaphragmatic approach, after division of the diaphragmatic crura or excision of a muscular cuff around the oesophageal hiatus. The E.E.A. stapler permits an easy gastric or jejunal anastomosis with the esophagus.

8,738 cases of acute appendicitis, all operated on emergency, have been examined considering their total mortality (3 cases), and their post-operative complications (2.04%), secondary especially to the septic character of this disease. Diagnosis and treatment of acute appendicitis still require a particular attention and care.
Emergency surgery for rupture or fissuration of sub-renal abdominal aortic aneurysms can be simplified by the use of a ringed tubular graft prosthesis of woven Dacron, which is fixed intraluminally in the aneurysmatic sac.
Hepatico-jejunostomy for intrahepatic lithiasis can usefully be completed by a double trans-hepatic drainage, which makes it possible to wash the biliary tree and flush out residual stones in the post-operative period, and also by cutaneous jejunostomy, which facilitates endoscopic removal of intrahepatic stones remaining in situ.
