[The primary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx].

Authors reports a rare case of the 41 years old woman with the primary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx with submandibular lymphonodulitis. The first suggestion in this case was neoplasma malignum. Antituberculosis treatment was satisfactory.

[Cylindromas of the head and neck].

The authors present the results of medical treatment in patients with head and neck cylindromas hospitalized in the Department of Otolaryngology. The Zeromski Hospital in Kraków, within the period 1961 to 1988.

Carcinoma, Adenoid Cystic↗

[Eosinophilic granuloma of the temporal bone].

The authors describe current opinions about origin, pathology, histology, diagnosis and treatment of the eosinophilic granuloma. Clinical course, diagnosis and treatment of the own case were discussed.

[Laryngeal carcinoma in women].

In the total number of 1032 patients with laryngeal carcinoma treated surgically in the period 1962-1988 were 26 women (2.5%). In 17 women total laryngectomy was carried out. Partial laryngectomy was done in 9 women. Long term results were discussed.

[Laryngeal cancer in multiple primary malignant neoplasms].

The analysis of the clinical material of patients with the multiple primary malignant neoplasms was performed. 963 patients were operated upon because of laryngeal cancer. In 39 (4%) there were also another primary malignant neoplasm, more frequent as the second lesion, more rare as the first before the laryngeal one. The late results of treatment were presented.

ABO blood groups system in laryngeal cancer patients and after survival of 3 and 5 years.

The analyzed material comprised 200 patients with cancer of the larynx with various locations of the tumour and patients surviving 3 and 5 years after operation. The frequency of ABO blood groups was analysed separately in cases of epiglottis cancer (n = 153) and glottis cancer (n = 37). The frequency of A1, A2, B, A1B, A2B, O blood groups was compared with that in 22,422 healthy individuals living in South Poland. The A2B blood group was significantly more frequent in patients with epiglottis cancer and in those with laryngeal cancer. The difference was not significant after survival of 3 and 5 years.

Immune reactivity and clinical stage of patients with laryngeal cancer.

Selected parameters of the immune system were determined in vivo and vitro in 200 patients with malignant tumours of the larynx in various stages of clinical progression before surgical treatment. The comparison of the results with those in control groups of healthy persons made division of the patients possible into groups (a, b, c, d), and statistical analysis of the differences. The distribution of the patients according to the mean values of these parameters showed that such parameters as: white blood cell count, absolute lymphocyte count, absolute granulocyte count, receptor activity of T-cells and enzymatic activity of peripheral blood neutrophils may have characteristic values in laryngeal cancer. Particularly significant from the standpoint of prognostic value were the results of delayed hypersensitivity response to protein pure derivative (PPD), phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) and streptokinase-streptodornase (SK-SD).

HLA-ABC antigens in supraglottic cancer patients and their relationship with incidence and survival.

The frequency of HLA-ABC antigens in the total of 153 cases of supraglottic cancer of the larynx and in 118 and 37 patients from this group after 3 years and 5 or more years of survival respectively, was analysed. No significant differencies in the phenotype frequency class I HLA antigens in these patients were found, as compared with the frequency of of HLA, antigens in the healthy control population. The incidence of clinical stage I-III or IV did not affect the results, of the analysis. If the patients survived 5 or more years, the HLA-A31 antigen specificity was significantly more common at the beginning of the disease (Chi-square = 15,837; p < 0.005). A negative association for HLA-A11 in the patients with 3 years' survival was observed (Chi-square = 13,355; p < 0.025).
