[Mitochondrial proteolipids].

A convenient procedure is proposed for extracting mitochondrial proteolipids using a single phase mixture chloroform-methanol-water (1:2:0.8 v/v) with subsequent separation of the phases. The proteolipids were concentrated at the interface between the phases and thus purified from the bulk of the phospholipids. It was found that the mitochondrial proteolipids represent stable complexes of phospholipids with some low molecular weight proteins (M(r) = 7-18 kDa). The latter are destroyed at acid pH values. The phospholipid/protein ratio was found to be equal to 6 (assuming the molecular masses of the proteins and phospholipids to be equal to 10 and 0.8 kDa, respectively). The phospholipid composition of the tightly bound proteolipids thus obtained did not differ from that of the mitochondrial phospholipids. Using 31P-NMR, nonbilayer structures were found to arise from proteolipid reconstitution into multibilayer liposomes.

[The fatty acid composition of the total lipids in Vibrio cholerae].

The fatty acid composition of total cell lipids of V. albensis typing strains, serovars 01-012, isolated from patients and environmental objects, as well as V. eltor and NAG vibrios, has been studied. Fatty acids contain 14-18 carbon atoms and are mainly represented by unsaturated monoacids. Palmitoleic and oleic acids constitute the greater part of unsaturated acids (their total content is 55.2-71.0%). The level of saturated fatty acids in considerably lower (27.0-43.1%), and these acids are mainly represented by palmitic acid, its maximum level being 28.4%. The similarity of the fatty acid profiles of the lipids common to the strains under study may indicate that these strains are phylogenetically related.

[The lipids of phosphorescent Vibrio albensis bacteria].

The lipid composition of fluorescent vibrios, V. eltor and nonagglutinating vibrios has been studied. In the fraction of polar lipids phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol and cardiolipin and in the fraction of neutral lipids monoglycerides, free fatty acids, diglycerides, triglycerides, sterol esters have been identified. The fatty acid composition of some classes of neutral lipids have been determined. Both similarity and differences between the strains under study in their lipid and fatty acid composition have been established.

[Changes in the level of polyunsaturated fatty acids, substrates and inhibitors of thromboxane and prostacyclin synthesis, in the blood of patients with cardiovascular diseases].

The authors examined the ratios of blood free polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), such as 20:3n6, 20:4n6, 20:5n3, and 22:6n3, which are substrates and inhibitors of synthesis of thromboxane A2 and prostacyclins that regulate both normal blood fluidity, and platelet adhesion and primary thrombogenesis. The object of the study was plasma from healthy subjects and 4 groups of patients with cardiovascular diseases: 1) large myocardial infarction; 2) resting and exercise-induced angina pectoris; 3) large myocardial infarction; and 4) recurrent myocardial infarction. The levels of plasma free PUFA were measured by gas chromatography. Assessment of the PUFA ratios indicated that the risk for thrombogenesis increased in large and recurrent myocardial infarctions as compared to small myocardial infarction and angina pectoris both by reducing the relative levels of 20:3n6 and, in particular, 20:5n3, substrates of synthesis of only thrombolytics and vasodilators and by more greatly inhibiting the synthesis of prostacyclins than thromboxane with elevated 22:6n3 levels.

[Effect of myocardial ischemia on the metabolism of nonesterified fatty acids].

The pattern of nonesterified fatty acid consumption was assessed on the basis of the arteriovenous difference during the atrial stimulation test in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia and coronary heart disease. NEFA extraction coefficients were shown to be basically different in these two groups of patients, possible evidence of disturbed lipid metabolism in coronary disease.
