[Dynamic radiation telethermometry in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis].

Density was studied of heat flow from the area of the anterior abdominal wall in 167 patients with acute appendicitis. A novel methodological approach has been developed to the diagnosis of acute appendicitis making use of remote thermometry with the unit "Radiation heat flows meter". Recording of heat flows from the region of the anterior abdominal wall helps in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, allows some preliminary judgement about the degree of affection of the organ, permits choosing relevant policy of managing a particular patient. The method can be employed in planned and urgent surgery.

[Classification of renal failure].

The authors analyze the data available in the literature on acute and chronic renal failure (ARF and CRF, respectively). The mechanisms of their development (common and distinctive) are pathogenetically assessed and the functional reserve of the kidneys is determined. The phasic character of development of renal failure (compensation, subcompensation and decompensation) is pathogenetically substantiated. ARF and CRF are shown to be two forms of renal failure development which have both pathogenetic and distinctive characteristics in its mechanisms.

[Altered renal function in acute sodium nitrite intoxication experiment].

In experiments on non-inbred albino rats, intoxication was reproduced with 1% aqueous sodium nitrite solution, which was rated by the degree of hemic hypoxia (HH). The findings suggest that changes in renal functions (osmo-regulating, sodium-regulating) occur due to the development of mild HH, by increasing as hypoxia deteriorates. Decreased glomerular filtration and proteinuria, which are concomitantly detected, point to their mixed glomerulotubular pattern of renal lesion in nitrite intoxication.

[The effect of prostacyclin and its synthetic analog MM-706 on kidney function in corrosive sublimate-induced nephropathy].

The effects of prostacyclin and its stable analogue MM-706 on renal function were examined in rats with sublimate nephropathy. Prostacyclin was shown to attenuate renal dysfunctions by increasing glomerular filtration rate and water and salt reabsorption. MM-706 produced more pronounced protective effects and restored the filtration and reabsorption up to the level observed in control rats.

[Effect of a synthetic prostacyclin analog on kidney function and the system of regulation of blood coagulation in experimental acute renal failure].

The influence of a stable analogue of prostacyclin on the renal function and parameters of hemostasis was investigated in experiments on animals with the nephrotic form of acute renal insufficiency. Diuresis, glomerular filtration, water and sodium reabsorption in the presence of diminished intravascular coagulation were recovered after two injections of the compound in a dose of 115 micrograms/kg.

[Role of nitric oxide in tumor growth].

This review article will analyze the role of nitric oxide in antiblastomous organism resistance, in particular some mechanisms of NO-mediated apoptosis in different cells and NO involvement in etiological mechanisms as well as tumor growth promotion. The possible mechanisms of nitric oxide dual effect are discussed. The data about NO as a mediator in different methods of cancer treatment are given. In conclusion, we have determined some principles of application of NO-modulating agents in cancer therapy.

[Determination of nonmetabolized antipyrine in human urine].

A method for evaluating the renal clearance of antipyrine is proposed. The analyses were performed for a group of healthy females of reproductive age. The renal clearance of nontransformed antipyrine is found to be significant and the basic indices of renal activity (diuresis, creatinine excretion) are correlated with the drug concentration in saliva. A single administration of antipyrine in a dose of 10 mg/kg does not influence the renal function of healthy volunteers. The proposed photometric method of antipyrine determination in urine (under the conditions of loading with 0.5% NaCl solution at an amount of 0.5% of body weight) is sufficiently sensitive and provides information about the renal clearance of antipyrine, offering an important supplement to the data obtained by conventional methods.

[Renal mechanisms of the osmotic homeostasis maintenance on a background of the salt test].

Mechanisms of the renal function were studied in white mice subjected to water and hyperosmotic tests. Excretion of excess osmotically active substances appeared to be affected by as modulation of the tubular transport, so intensification of the glomerular filtration through activation of the functional kidney reserve and involvement of renal nitrogen oxide.

[Characteristics of the kidney functional state after a single dose of thyroxine in white rats].

A 50 mcg/100 g b.w. single dose of thyroxine was injected to non-inbred white rat males with body mass 140-180 g in conditions of 5% water and osmotic (3% solution of sodium chloride) load, then renal function was studied. This injection reduced creatinine clearance and phosphate excretion, raised nitrate and protein excretion. The kidney of the hyperthyroid animals retains ability to increase creatinine clearance in response to osmotic load. Thus, the above model demonstrates that in the absence of thyroxine renal toxicity it changes homeostatic renal functions both at the vascular-glomerular and tubular levels.

[Effect of sodium-rich diet and captopril on the functional state of kidney in rats with experimental hyperthyreosis].

The administration of thyroxin (10 microg/100 g body weight, 7 days) in rats leads to an increase in the renal excretion of proteins and nitrates. Under the conditions of hypo- and normosodium diet, thyroxin decreased the rate of glomerular filtration. Hypersodium diet and captopril increased the rate of glomerular filtration in rats with experimental hyperthyreosis. The maximum level of renal excretion in hyperthyreoidal rats was observed on the background of sodium-rich diet.

[Effect of destruction of the lateral septal nucleus on renal function].

A conclusion on relationships of the septum with both the antidiuretic and antinatriuretic systems in the regulation of the aqueous-electrolytic balance and renal function has been drawn as a result of the study of the drinking behaviour and renal reaction after the destruction of the lateral septal nucleus (LSN). This conclusion is based on the revealed increase in the urinary excretion of sodium, osmotically active substances, creatinine, titrating acids and ammonia after the LSN destruction. Moreover, an increase of the vasopressin level in the blood plasma, a decrease of aldosterone concentration as well as an activation of the drinking behaviour are noted.

[Pathogenetic significance of lipid peroxidation in damage of the proximal segment of the nephron in acute Masugi's nephritis].

During the acute experimental nephritis a decrease of reabsorption by proximal tubules is combined with the activation of the lipid peroxidation into the renal cortex without changes in the activation of lysosomal enzyme of acid phosphatase and cathepsin D. Ionol, an inhibitor of oxygen products, exerts a protective action on the renal function and reabsorption by proximal tubules, decreasing concentration of the malondialdehyde into the renal cortex.

[Role of the hypophyseo-adrenal system in regulating the acid-secreting function of the kidneys].

The experiments on male albino rats have shown that both stress and hydrocortisone elevate the urinary excretion of hydrogen ions in the form of titrated acids and ammonium ions. Desoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCSA) in intact rats, adrenal- and hypophysectomy lower ammonium ions excretion. Both stress and DOCSA increase the tubular sodium reabsorption, while hydrocortisone, adrenal- and hypophysectomy decrease it. A conclusion is made that both glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids participate in the renal functional change under stress. It should be underlined that glucocorticoids stimulate the secretion while mineralocorticoids play the leading part in maintenance of sodium homeostasis.

[A method of dynamic teplometry].

With the help of the proposed scheme of the unit the dynamics of the thermal losses has been studied. The measurements of the heat flow were taken from the body surface of both sick and healthy people in the area of their organs' projection. It has been found that the loading test, which leads the investigated system out of the state of rest, results in the change of radiation heat losses from the body surface. The heat radiation dynamics is characterised by the parameters of the transient processes different in norm and pathology. Due to this fact it is possible to use the dynamic thermometry data for estimation of the organ functioning and revealing the illness.
