Bimolane: structure determination indicates anticancer activity is attributable to ICRF-154.

X-ray diffraction studies of crystals from samples of bimolane synthesized in China and in the United States showed that the crystals consist of the related compound ICRF-154. Analysis of the results of biological tests did not show any significant differences between the anticancer activity of bimolane and ICRF-154. It appears that the anticancer activity of bimolane is due to ICRF-154.

Subjective well-being and physical health: a narrative literature review with suggestions for future research.

In this article the authors review the findings of eighty-one studies that have tested the relationship between health status and subjective well-being. Support was found for an association between health and well-being, although the source and extent of that relationship could not be clearly delineated given the numerous measurement problems and methodological inconsistencies found among the studies. Objective indices of health tended to have lower correlations with subjective well-being than with self-reports suggesting that various report biases may account for some, but probably not all, of the relationships obtained. Problems in study design and health measurement are also noted. An outline of the major competing hypotheses is presented that would explain the health-well-being association to guide future research and call for more direct study of psychological processes affected by changes in health in future research.

[Clinical value of N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase and alpha-galactosidase in liver diseases].

N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase is a lysosomal glycosidase, which participates in the catabolism of the mucopolysaccharides and of the glycoproteins. For the determination of this enzyme the production of the substrate and a modified methodology are described. Measurements of the activity were performed by 4-nitrophenyl-alpha-D-galactopyranoside and 4-nitrophenyl-N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminide as substrates. Examinations of this enzyme were performed in patients with acute virus hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and healthy test persons. In acute hepatitis and liver cirrhosis and significant increase of enzyme is provable, but not in protracted hepatitis.

[Alanine aminopeptidase and creatinine excretion under various conditions of diuresis in man].

In 10 female test persons Volhard's water and concentration experiment was carried out. It exists a highly significant correlation between the alanine aminopeptidase activity and the creatinine concentration in the urine. The relation of the two factors to the urine minute volume is hyperbolic. The creatinine in the urine may be regarded as a favourable reference parameter for the excretion of alanine aminopeptidase.

[Significance of modern therapeutic procedures in long-term treatment of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias].

To get a quantitative statement concerning the significance of modern therapy in supraventricular tachyarrhythmias 200 consecutive patients who were admitted to a coronary unit were analysed retrospectively. Finally accepted treatment were empirical drug therapy in 85 per cent, electrophysiologically controlled medical treatment in 12.5 per cent, pacemaker therapy in 1 per cent, and ablative procedures (catheter ablation and surgical Kent bundle dissection) in 2.5 per cent. As strictly atrial tachyarrhythmias are prevailing and advantages of electrophysiologically controlled drug therapy are not proven, in the majority of cases of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias empirical medical treatment is sufficient. Only in very few cases it is surpassed by the modern procedures. But, nevertheless these modern methods should be known to find the best treatment in problematical cases.
