[Metabolism of antipsoriatic anthrone derivatives].

The metabolisation of the antipsoriatically active molecules 1,8,9-triacetoxy-anthracene und 1,8-diacetoxy-9-anthrone by serum is described. Under these conditions 1,8-dihydroxy-9-anthrone, 1-hydroxy-8-acetoxy-9-anthrone, 1,8,1',8'-tetrahydroxy-bisanthrone, 1,8-dihyroxy-anthraquinone, 1,8-diacetoxy-anthraquinone and 1-hydroxy-8-acetoxy-anthraquinone arise from both educts. Quantitative determinations of these metabolites indicate that hydrolytic reactions occur prior to oxidation. Contrary to 1,8-dihydroxy-9-anthrone, 1,8,9-triacetoxyanthracene and 1,8-diacetoxy-9-anthrone are effective against psoriatic lesions without accompanying inflammations of the skin. 1,8,9-Trimethoxy-anthracene, however, is ineffective, also indicating that at least 1,8,9-triacetoxy-anthracene is a prodrug.--In agreement with Krebs' hypothesis 10,10-dialkylated 1,8-dihydroxy-9-anthrones described in this paper are ineffective against psoriasis.

[Infusion kinetics of drugs injected into the drip chamber of an infusion set].

The infusion kinetics of drugs injected into the "drip-chamber" of an i.v. infusion set has never been studied, although this route of drug administration is used more and more frequently in hospitalized patients. The drug is eliminated from this "drip-chamber" and hence infused into the body by 1.-order kinetics. A half-life of administration can be calculated and experimentally verified. This t 1/2 is equal to the ratio of the volume of infusion fluid in the "drip-chamber" (which can be estimated) and the infusion velocity of the i.v. drip (which is chosen) with the ln 2 as the proportionality constant. Hence the velocity of administration of the drug is not constant. Just after the injection more of the drug reaches the body per unit time than later on. This type of drug administration should therefore not be used if high plasma concentrations at the beginning are to be avoided or a constant infusion is desired.

[Aims and realizations in the manufacture of articulators].

The various designs of the most familiar articulators are described. Also the different concepts important to comprehending the stomatognathic functions are discussed. Their impact on the designs of various articulators are shown. The purpose of this study is not to given a complete review of the history and development of different articulators, rather, the purpose is to present the application of various stomatognathic philosophies to the design of various articulators.

[Therapeutic results using VP 16-213 alone or in combination with 5-fluorouracil in liver cancer (hepatoma)].

The podophyllotoxin derivative VP 16-213 was used as monotherapy in 6 patients and combined with 5-fluorouracil in another 6. Of the 12 patients treated, 11 had measurable tumor criteria and 5 of these responded to treatment. These responses were attributed mainly to the effects of VP 16-213. Patients responding to chemotherapy lived significantly longer than non-responders. Each case of objective tumor response was accompanied by subjective improvement. In view of these results, a more active approach to the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma would seem to be justified.

[Acute myeloid leukaemia in the course of Hodgkin's disease (author's transl)].

Acute myeloid leukaemia occurred in six patients who had been treated for Hodgkin's disease for a number of years. Usually the leukaemia diagnosis was preceded by a striking pancytopenic phase, bone-marrow aspiration being more useful diagnostically than biopsy. Five of these six patients have come under observation in the last eighteen months. This extraordinary frequency of secondary acute myeloid leukaemia once again raises the question of the leukaemogenic effect of intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and also new aspects in the therapeutic management of Hodgkin's disease, especially combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy, as well as long-term maintenance chemotherapy.

Programming for articularion modification.

Within the past decade, principles and techniques of programmed instruction have been applied to the procedures of articulation modification in a number of preconstructed programs. The analysis of nine of these programs reveals that the majority of them are characterized by precisely stated objectives, ordered sequences of materials and procedures, clearly established criteria and rigorously controlled methods of reinforcement and recording of responses. Evaluation of the preconstructed programs raises some questions about the appropriateness of certain aspects of the technology to the process of articulation modification.

[The need for stomatological care in the light of an analysis of the frequency of stomatologic diseases].

The present paper deals with a method for determining the extent of stomatological care for the population of the GDR. The components "stomatological morbidity", "available amount of time" and "average amount of working time spent on each prosthetic/conservative service" are linked to determine the extent of stomatological care with regard to the three variants of prosthetic/conservative treatment. The calculation method is used to find out the optimal variant.

[The importance of the method investing for accuracy of Sipal inlays].

The fit of three-area inlays (phantom) made from Sipal 306 was determined in an experimental study by means of microscopic measurements of the gap width. Six different investment techniques were compared. The necessity of processing Expansit adequately is emphasized. Core embedding using the LAW precision-casting investment compound is recommended.
