The digestive apparatus of Murex brandaris (L.) and Trunculariopsis Trunculus (L.).

The histomorphology and histochemistry of the digestive apparatus of Murex brandaris and Trunculariopsis trunculus has been studied in order to clarify the structural features of the digestive tract and the physiology of digestion in these species. Biochemical analyses of polar lipids and of some enzymatic activities were also carried out on the connected glands. (salivary, "framboisé", Leiblein and digestive). Digestive enzyme production is not present in the stomach and intestine. These enzymes are produced not only by the connected glands, but also by a specialized epithelial cell type (granular cell) present in the oesophagus and in the rectum. Absorbtion activity is demonstrable at the level of the rectum.

Neurosecretory cells in the central nervous system of Helicella virgata (Gastropoda, Pulmonata).

The central nervous system of Helicella virgata was first investigated with chrome-haematoxylin phloxin and paraldehyde-fuchsin techniques for the detection of neurosecretory cells. With the alcian blue/alcian yellow staining method five cell types were identified within the class of Gomori-positive cells. It was further established that the group of Gomori-negative cells distributed in the right parietal and left parieto-visceral ganglia reacts positively with alcian blue/alcian yellow method. These cells are to be included in the Yellow Green Cells type.

Differences in the effect of two benzodiazepines in the treatment of anxious outpatients.

60 anxious patients received either 3 mg lorazepam or 30 mg clobazam daily for 4 weeks preceded and followed by a 1-week placebo treatment. Both drugs were equally effective in changing the ratings of anxiety obtained on the Hamilton anxiety rating scale, the Leeds self assessment scale and visual analogue scales. Statistically significant differences between the two drugs were observed after the final week on placebo. In the patients treated with lorazepam the psychic anxiety scores worsened and began to return to their pre-drug levels. This reoccurrence of the symptoms of anxiety was not noticed in the patients treated with clobazam.

[Gastrointestinal localizations of malignant lymphomas].

Lymphoma of the alimentary canal is somewhat rare. It has no unusual features and few characteristics, with the result that its clinical, radiological and endoscopic diagnosis is problematic, since its lesions may readily be confused by other neoplastic or inflammatory forms. The difficulty is, of course, primarily felt in the case of primary sites, since the co-existence of other lymphomatous tissues facilitates diagnosis. It is suggested that surgeons should be aware of the existence and treatment of these forms. 13 cases collected from 25 laparosplenectomies for staging since 1971 are presented. Four patients had primary lesions, whereas generalised lymphoma was present in the remainder. Nine patients are still alive after treatment.

[Laparosplenectomy in 104 cases of Hodgkin's disease].

A series of 104 laparosplenectomies for Hodgkin's disease was carried out over a period of 4 years. Splenectomy was considered indicated in all cases observed, independently of the clinical situation; preference was, however, reserved to patients in whom the disease was just at the beginning and not yet treated. In such patients, the purpose of the intervention was to pinpoint the degree of development of the disease which would then dictate the chemo-radiological therapeutic protocol. The theoretical bases of the method are illustrated along with its aims and the simple technical features of the surgery. Intraoperative findings are discussed and compared with previous clinical and radiological data, and immediate results are reported.
