[Contemporary management of Dupuytren disease].

The principles of management of Dupuytren contracture of the hand were discussed on the base of world literature. Nonsurgical treatment proved to be totally ineffective. There are precise indications for surgical procedures; the range of the operation should be chosen individually. Neglecting these principles leads to extended postoperative course and makes the results of treatment far from being ideal.

[Fractures of the acetabulum].

Fractures in the region of hip acetabulum are an ever more frequent and difficult orthopaedic problem. Not infrequently the choice of the therapeutic method is determined by associated injuries occurring in half the cases and affecting practically any part of the body. Of essential importance for the diagnosis and treatment of these fractures is the radiological examination as described by R. and J. Judet and Le Tournel. For prevention of femoral head necrosis the coexistent hip displacement must be corrected within 48 hours.

[Principles of the treatment of soft tissue neoplasms of the locomotor system].

Although chemotherapy and radiotherapy is widely used in oncological treatment, surgical treatment still plays the main role in orthopaedic oncology. Surgical radicalism on which depends the time of a patient's survival cannot justify any operations needlessly mutilating patients and in this way destroying motor function. The principle of surgical radicalism may have special exceptions in the case of elderly persons.
