A 33-year-old woman was admitted to our department with a palpable right flank mass of considerable size. Renal cell carcinoma was the diagnosis made by CT scan and MRI. When the tumor was excised, histology revealed an angiomyolipoma. The preoperative diagnostic error of MRI as well as CT scan is discussed.

We report the first case of unilateral, upper tract obstruction secondary to incrustation and stone formation on a silicone double-J ureteral stent. We believe that the main cause of this complication was the neurological bladder dysfunction of the patient coupled with urinary tract infection.

Among the patients of a urological clinic, within 5 years 15 cases of spontaneous rupture of the renal calices with urinary extravasation were seen after infusion urograms. At 1.5% of the patients, they are rare. In two cases septicemia with endotoxin shock occurred as unusual complications and in two cases provocation or exacerbation of a pyelonephritis. The clinical picture is described in the case records. Pathophysiological problems, therapeutic possibilities and indications for infusion urography are discussed.

The reliability of suprapubic ultrasonography (SU) in assessing the size of the prostate was examined in 95 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Volumetric measurements of the prostate and the transition zone of the prostate (TZP) performed by SU were compared with corresponding measurements obtained by transrectal ultrasonography measurements obtained by transrectal ultrasonography (TU). A very strong correlation was found between suprapubically and transrectally performed measurements for both the total prostate gland (r = 0.948, p < 0.001) and the TZP volume (r = 0.953, p < 0.001). According to the results of this study, SU appears to be reliable as TU in assessing the size of the prostate and the TZP and may be used effectively in the evaluation of patients with BPH, as it is less cumbersome, better tolerated, and a widely available examination technique.
A case of mucinous adenocarcinoma probably originating in the renal pelvis of an ectopic pyelic kidney with infiltration of the adjacent urinary bladder is reported. Review of the literature shows that this is the 42nd case of such a tumor, the second one reported in the pelvis of an ectopic pyelic kidney, and the first infiltrating the urinary bladder.
Examination of the nucleotide sequence of the retinoblastoma (Rb) promoter revealed the presence of a DNA region highly homologous to the recognition site for the cellular transcription factor AP-1. A pair of complementary oligonucleotides containing the AP-1 site was synthesized and used in gel retardation assays to determine the role of the AP-1 protein in the regulation of the Rb gene expression. Using nuclear extracts from Hela cells as well as from lung and bladder tumors, we found specific binding of the AP-1 protein to this oligonucleotide. This binding is elevated in Hela cells, in 10/13 lung and 3/8 bladder tumors as compared to adjacent normal tissue. These results suggest that AP-1 could be implicated in Rb gene transcriptional regulation through its interaction with the AP-1 binding site of the Rb gene promoter.
