This communication reports the histological structure of loop recessions of extraocular muscles from seven patients. In all cases the loops formed pseudotendons in which the typical histological structure was well established by four months. Subsequently, moulding of these pseudotendons occurred with improved alignment of collagen and decrease in vascularity. By three and a half years after the operation the pseudotendon had acquired a very close resemblance to true tendon.
The Otago photoscreener is an optical instrument which gives a very sensitive indication of the accuracy with which a subject's eyes are fixing and focusing. Early experience suggested that this instrument could be used effectively to screen for the presence of amblyogenic factors in pre-verbal infants. This communication describes the development of ocular fixation and focusing in 137 normal infants who were followed at regular intervals during the first year of life. Accurate fixation and focusing was found in 13% of three-month-old infants, in 68% of six-month-old infants and in 76% of one year olds. The levels of 'focusing' visual acuity obtained from the photoscreen data are considerably better than the levels of cortical acuity measured by the standard behavioral and electrophysiological methods. This suggests that human infants fix and focus accurately for a considerable period before they are able to perceive all the details obtained in their retinal images.
A method of preparing antigen-free cancellous bone for use as an orbital implant is described together with the surgical technique for its use in enucleation. The results of 52 patients with follow-up spanning 10 years is reported. In the first four years, five implants had to be removed, all due to infection following breakdown of Tenon's capsule in the early postoperative period. However, with more careful closure of Tenon's capsule, there have been no extrusions during the last six years.

A prospective study of 148 cases of neurosyphillis revealed that 85 patients exhibited a modified 'forme fruste' of the disease. A high proportion of these patients had evidence of activity in the cerebrospinal fluid, while 6 patients have developed features which are diagnostic of neurosyphills. During the study a significant number of active seronegative cases were diagnosed and 11 patients have deteriorated on treatment.

The implant design, surgical technique, and pharmacological methods of controlling bleb fibrosis, used to treat neovascular glaucoma, are described, together with the results of 14 operations performed on 12 eyes.
Five cases of retinoblastoma treated be freezing are reported. From these cases it appears that a single freeze-thaw cycle will destroy all tumour and that with suitable instruments it is possible to destroy tumours involving up to 30% of the volume of the globe without causing blindness.
The design, surgical insertion and results of a plastic draining implant for severe glaucoma are reported. The need for pharmacological control of bleb inflammation is stressed and the favourable long-term outlook for patients with such implants is discussed.
The methods used to identify and evaluate anti-inflammatory agents, and the effects of a triple drug regimen, consisting of oral prednisone and flufenamic acid and topical l-adrenaline in controlling bleb inflammation and fibrosis around drainage implants in patients with terminal glaucoma are described. The benefits of anti-inflammatory agents in other surgical glaucoma procedures are suggested.
Endogenous uveitis is an important cause of blindness in young adults. The need for a comprehensive search for an aetiological 'antigen' is stressed. A source of adjuvant, disturbance in host immunology and any associated syndromes are also sought. Treatment then involves elimination of 'antigen', suppression of host hypersensitivity and the enhanced vascular permeability, and improvement of host resistance. The value of antihistamine and antiserotonin drugs in successful treatment is emphasised.
