Sixty-nine rat mandibular molars were exposed surgically, and the pulpal response to ZOE with a purified form of eugenol versus ZOE with stock eugenol was investigated. Evaluation and analysis of the control and experimental specimens at 1, 3, 7 and 21 days indicated that there were no differences in the amount of inflammation observed between the two groups. Thus, it may be inferred from the results of this study that the impurities found in stock eugenol are not of clinical significance.
Fifteen hours after the patient's tooth was avulsed in a bicycle accident, replantation procedures began. This case presents a process of replantation and its success. An avulsed tooth is a traumatic experience. Replantation is often of psychological value. Although the possibility of the eventual loss of the tooth should be explained to the patient, replantation reduces the traumatic effect of the accident. It also has clinical value. Successful replantation results in prolonged retention which will improve esthetic appearance, arch form, chewing, enunciation, and integrity of the arch. Use of calcium hydroxide in avulsed teeth has allowed the rate of replantation success to increase greatly. It is a practical technique that is scientifically sound, has many positive indications, and has provided an invaluable service to patients.
Many endodontic techniques are difficult to explain and to understand because the student finds them difficult to visualize. The technique model described above enables the student to visualize the relationship between the canals and surrounding anatomical structures. This model also enables the teacher to prepare and compose a step-by-step procedure; many times this is impossible to do in a clinical case. The technique model is a vivid, simple, and inexpensive way to demonstrate various endodontic procedures, and can be an invaluable tool in endodontic education.

Subgingival and subosseous fractured teeth may be repaired and should continue to function if treated by use of sound restorative techniques. Three recommendations are offered. The fractured tooth segment should be used to make a custom matrix. Minor gingival surgery will aid in gaining access to a subgingival margin. Amalgam is well tolerated and may be used subgingivally.
