A procedure for relining a complete or removable partial denture without the use of wax.

Various procedures are used to reline removable dentures. Some of these involve the use of wax to seal the denture to the cast for flasking and processing. This necessitates the use of high temperatures for an extended period and involves the risk of warpage of the denture. It is also relatively time-consuming. This article describes a procedure that uses polyvinyl siloxane instead of wax. The procedure is more time efficient and decreases the risk of warpage of the denture.

Refitting a bar-clip removable prosthesis attached to osseointegrated implants.

Refitting clip-retained complete dentures for patients with osseointegrated implants as abutments presents problems in maintaining occlusion and protecting the clip during processing. This article describes a technique for functionally relining osseointegrated prostheses containing anterior clip-bar attachments.

Using the existing complete denture as a surgical template.

This technique uses the patient's denture as a combination surgical splint and transitional prosthesis. Wire ligation or other methods of support used for surgical templates are unnecessary. Modifications of the existing complete denture can be accomplished in one setting, and the need for special equipment is eliminated. This method is applicable to the mandible as well as the maxilla.

Proposed treatment sequence for overdentures.

In conventional overdenture treatment planning, it is often assumed that all the teeth, except the selected abutments, are extracted and that endodontic treatment on the remaining teeth is necessary. The latter step may add substantially to the cost of the overdentures. Since several prosthodontic patients demonstrate the formation of a calcified bridge over an exposed vital pulp, the dentist can simulate this condition and eliminate the time and expense entailed by endodontic treatment. Since good oral hygiene and home care are necessary for optimal prognosis in overdenture therapy, there is time in this proposed sequence of treatment to discontinue treatment on patients with poor prognosis, before becoming involved in rather expensive endodontic and coping treatment. The proposed phenomenon is a gradual one, but it can retain tooth vitality through careful and early planning of the overdenture.

The use of intraoral cores to repair complete and partial removable prostheses.

A technique has been described for repairing fractured dentures. The procedure entails use of an occlusal core to correctly position the broken pieces of the denture. This technique is also applicable for repair of removable partial dentures as well as complete dentures. When the cause of a fractured prosthesis can be traced to occlusal disharmony or poor fit, it is not expected that repairing the denture will solve the underlying cause.
