[Severe allergic cutaneovisceral vasculitis in children. Apropos of 6 cases].

Six children aged between 10 months and 13 years with allergic vasculitis are described. The features they had in common were necrotic skin lesions, involvement of various viscera and signs of hypersensitivity reactions. Histological changes of allergic vasculitis were present in the small vessels of the skin. This condition has features in common with both polyarteritis nodosa and with anaphylactoid purpura. Severe cases that do not respond to corticosteroids may respond to immuno-suppression with cyclophosphamide.

Experimental urinary tract infection in rabbits by a group D Streptococcus sp.: a study of serum immunoglobulin classes by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

After induction of pyelonephritis and cystitis in rabbits by a group D streptococcus, the authors measured the specific serum antibody response in the three major immunoglobulin classes. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed using group D streptococcal antigen extracted by phenol. Before experimentation, all rabbits had low IgM, IgG and IgA titres against group D streptococcal antigen. A marked increase in IgM antibodies was detected during the first month of experimental pyelonephritis. A poor IgM antibody response was observed in rabbits with cystitis. During the three months of experimentation, a significant difference in mean IgG levels was observed between rabbits with pyelonephritis and those with cystitis.

Experimental retrograde pyelonephritis due to group D streptococcus in the rabbit: pathologic, bacteriologic and antibody-coated bacteria studies.

An experimental model of retrograde pyelonephritis in the rabbit using streptococcus D is described. The pathological findings were those of chronic pyelonephritis. The results of the antibody-coated bacteria test (ACB test) were usually negative at the end of follow-up time. Confirming previous results in streptococcus D urinary infection in the child, this experimental model shows that the ACB test is not reliable in urinary infections due to streptococcus D.

[Steroid-responsive nephrotic syndrome in infants: 2 familial case reports ].

Two cases of nephrotic syndrome discovered respectively at the ages of 3 and 7 weeks in 2 siblings are reported. Nephrosis was of the optically normal glomeruli-type in both cases. In spite of the very young age of the patients a good result of steroid-therapy was obtained after 6 and 8 weeks of treatment, respectively. Both children were not HLA-identical but had in common the A2-B12-DR4 haplotype.

[Cockayne's syndrome; a radiological entity: a report on two familial cases (author's transl)].

Two cases of cockayne's syndrome occurring in the same family group are reported. The authors describe the chronological evolution of the bone lesions, based on radiological examinations of the older sister made at 4, 13 1/2, and 15 years of age. Evidence that clinical signs of early ageing are associated with a rapid drop in thymic hormone levels led the authors to search for radiological signs of premature ageing. At 15 years of age only minimal signs were apparent.
