[Economic aspects of alveolitis].

In 1680 cases of alveolitis ("dry socket") the national economic-loss is more than 339,693.-marks. Nearly 3 million teeth will be extracted in one year in the DDR. By a valuation of nearly 3% of the alveolitis 90,000 patients have this complication. That will be a economic-loss of 18.1 million marks in one year. The prophylaxis of this complication is therefore a most important problem.

[Epidemiology of odontogenous soft-tissue infections].

Between 1950 and 1986, 11,839 patients were ambulant and stationary treated with odontogenous soft-tissue infections. In the aetiology the Periodontitis apicalis and wounds after tooth extractions are in the highest position. Odontogenous infections were rearly found in tenderage. In ambulant patients the subperiosteal submucous localisation was predominated, in stationary the position near the border of the lower jaw. The first molar and the premolares were the chief cause of the infections.

[Diagnosis of diseases in the maxillo-facial region].

The clinical diagnosis of 3,943 patients was examinated, only in 45% of the cases the diagnosis was correct, in 23% we found a false diagnosis specially in tumor-like lesions and diseases of the oral mucosa but too in dental infections and zysts. This study mediates centres of gravity in the medical training and further education.
