[Efficiency criteria and basic parameters of powder inhalers].

A high therapeutic efficiency and ecological safety are typical of powder inhalers. However, the designs of devices, serially manufactured in many world countries, are different, which affects their technical parameters. There are also differences pertaining to the definition "efficiency criterion" of a powder inhaler. An attempt is made in the paper to substantiate the efficiency notion of the discussed medical equipment and to analyze the methodological approaches to define such efficiency in the laboratory setting.

[Volumetric standard sources for the metrological certification of spectrometers for measuring human internal irradiation].

The system of metrological measurements using spectrometers of human radiation (SHR) envisages the development, investigation and attestation of sources of volumetric activity simulating an object of investigation. The authors devised a unified solid-body phantom, representing a set of standard volumetric sources in the form of rectangular modules and a method of their distribution. When assembled, the phantom imitates the human body containing a radionuclide, regularly distributed by the volume. Different variants of the packing of the constituent elements makes in possible to simulate the human body in a wide range of age groups and height and weight correlations. Experimental investigations on the standardization of various types of SHR on the basis of this phantom have shown good convergence of the results of measurements within the limits of 15% error.

[Metronidazole in the complex treatment of peritonitis of appendicular etiology in children].

Metronidazole was used for treatment of 212 patients with peritonitis of appendicular origin. It resulted in lowered leukocytosis, elimination of the stab neutrophil shift, earlier reduction of the leukocyte intoxication index. The amount of suppurations of postoperative wounds decreased from 17% to 4.3%. The amount of reoperations was 2.4% instead of 5.4%. Metronidazole is recommended for treatment of acute appendicitis complicated by peritonitis.

[Choosing the method of anesthesia in aortofemoral shunting].

The influence of 4 kinds of anesthesia (neuroleptanalgesia, peridural anesthesia by trimecaine hydrochloride, peridural morphine analgesia, fluoroxene anesthesia) upon the process of reestablishment of blood circulation in lower extremities and possibilities of using a rheographic method for the intraoperative assessment of the efficiency of the aorto-femoral shunting were studied in 112 patients with the help of rheography of the shin and great toes. The authors recognize that trimecaine hydrochloride anesthesia and peridural sympathetic block allow with the help of rheography to timely detect an inadequacy of the aorto-iliac reconstruction in 9 cases.

[Telethermography in the examination of children following orchiopexy].

From the results of examination of 60 healthy boys the authors suggest a thermographic characteristics of the scrotum in different age groups. It is shown with high authenticity that the temperature of the scrotum reduces with age. Besides, there is an authentic increase of temperature of the scrotum on the left side in children aged from 11 to 14 years. Examination of 317 boys who underwent operation for cryptorchidism showed the temperature to be increased by 0.6-0.8 degree C in the early and by 0.1-0.4 degree C in the late-term postoperative period. Distant thermography was found to be highly informative in studying the scrotal temperature regimen in healthy children and in those with cryptorchidism in the postoperative period.
